Crowns and Bridges

Damaged and missing teeth can make a lot of the daily activities you take for granted much more challenging. Eating your favorite foods may become uncomfortable, which can affect your nutrition and overall health. Your other teeth may shift, leading to discomfort in your mouth and further tooth mobility. You may also feel self-conscious about your appearance and your smile, which can have unfortunate social and professional consequences.

At Brigham Dental Care, the comfort, health, and appearance of your smile are important to us. We want you to be able to enjoy all your favorite foods and flash your smile with confidence.

Restorative dentistry, such as dental crowns and bridges, can help you feel better about your smile and restore the function and comfort of your teeth.

What Is a Dental Crown?

You may have heard dental crowns also referred to as “caps.” This common name reflects the way the crown, a shell of porcelain or other durable material, fits right over the top of your natural tooth – just like a cap.

While crowns can be made from a number of different materials, most patients prefer the esthetic all-porcelain crowns, which look almost identical to a natural tooth once they are placed. We take the time to carefully color match your dentistry so that it blends in well. After all, you want people to notice your friendly smile, not your dental work.

What Is a Bridge?

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is made of two dental crowns and one or more artificial teeth in between them. The crowns are fitted over healthy adjacent teeth (or, in some cases, dental implants), and the artificial teeth nestle in the space left by the missing teeth, “bridging the gap” so to speak.

How Are These Restorations Created and Placed?

Both of these restorations are created in a trusted dental lab to Dr. Ebert’s exact specifications. Before this process can begin, Dr. Ebert will begin by shaping the teeth that will be supporting the crowns. This allows the crown to fit over the tooth correctly and properly align with your bite.

Next, we will take impressions and photographs. This information, along with Dr. Ebert’s instructions, is sent to the dental lab where your restoration will be custom crafted. We will place a temporary restoration to protect the shaped teeth.

We will notify you when the completed restoration arrives at our office, usually within a couple of two weeks. At your appointment, we will remove the temporary restoration and place the permanent crown or bridge.

Our dental restorations are designed to be long-lasting, and with proper home care and regular visits to our Morrisville dental office, your crown or bridge should last for many years.
